After much craigslist scouring for appliances and cabinet sets, we were pleasantly surprised to find a hole-in-the-wall store that mostly deals with contractors (Mike's Furniture & Bedding in Westport). Mike's is a wholesaler, akin to those direct buy savings clubs constantly advertised on TV, however they specialize in liquidating discontinued inventory. We sat down with them today and discussed color options for new cabinets as well as a new stone counter. We finally decided on a color scheme called "Glazed White" and it's matching counter.

Mike's sent out an associate to our house later in the day to measure the kitchen and provide an estimate (as well as ensure they stocked or could obtain the cabinets we wanted). The total looks to be around $5000 for the cabinets and $1500 for the counter (including the creation of a template and holes cut for the sink and faucet). MSRP for the cabinets was around $12,000 when they were still in production. The demo cabinets in the store were extremely sturdy and made of thick wood, had dovetailed drawers and doors as well as soft close mechanisms.
We will be replacing all the ceiling cabinets with 36 inch models (no more soffits) as well as removing the pantry closet in lieu of a pantry cabinet unit. Still on the to do list, find new stainless appliances to match the new cabinets.
